Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - Akeem Bostick delivered his best outing of the season to lift the JetHawks to a 5-1 win over the High Desert Mavericks on Sunday night at The Hangar.
Bostick (6-4) carried a perfect game into the fifth inning before allowing a one-out walk to Ronald Guzman and an infield single to Josh Altmann. Over eight innings, Bostick struck out a career-high nine batters and allowed just one run on three hits. The right-hander became the first JetHawks (75-64) pitcher of the season to pitch eight innings.
Chase McDonald drove in four Lancaster's five runs, including a three-run homer off Dakota Watts in the eighth inning, his 29th home run of the season.
In the bottom of the second inning, Ronnie Mitchell drew a one-out walk from Mavericks (77-62) starter David Perez (4-3). Mitchell advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored the game's first run on a Mott Hyde single to center field.
McDonald plated the JetHawks' second run in the sixth inning, scoring J.D. Davis from third on a bases-loaded fielder's choice grounder.
Perez received the loss for High Desert, despite yielding just two runs on six hits over six innings of work.
After McDonald's three-run homer extended Lancaster's lead to four runs in the eighth, Enrique Chavez took over in relief for the ninth. Chavez gave up three hits and induced a double play before Jordan Mills recorded the game's final out to earn the save.
The JetHawks will play for the series victory on Monday with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. The final game of the regular season will feature Christian Powell (3-2, 8.10) starting for Lancaster as Dallas Gallant (1-1, 5.56) pitches for the Mavericks.
