Abilene Prairie Dogs News Release
ABILENE, TX - Nick Ochoa's second stint with the Abilene Prairie Dogs came to an end on Friday afternoon when Abilene released the designated hitter/first baseman. In addition, Abilene sent relief pitcher Karson Robinson to the PECOS League. To fill the three roster vacancies, Abilene has signed left-handed reliever Kevin Gelinas, infielder Danny Gonzalez, and righ t-handed reliever Justin Braddock in preparation for Friday night's game with Fort Worth.
In 112 at-bats over 29 games with the Prairie Dogs, Ochoa compiled a .223 batting average to go with one home run and 10 R.B.I.s. The righty blasted four doubles but was batting just .145 with one extra base hit against right-handed pitching. Abilene originally released Ochoa on June 5 before re-signing him six days later.
In his only appearance with Abilene, Robinson pitched two innings in relief against the San Angelo Colts on July 2. Robinson, a side-winding righty, allowed one hit, two walks, and struck out a batter in his lone outing.
Braddock, a right-handed pitcher from Southlake, TX will join the Prairie Dogs' bullpen. At 6'1" and 190 lbs, Braddock pitched at both Cisco College and Stephen F. Austin.
Gonzalez, a 23-year-old infielder, began the season with the Rockford River Hawks of the Frontier League where he batted .268 with seven doubles and four R.B.I.s over 112 at-bats. In 2011, Gonzalez played with the Chico Outlaws of the North American League. In 226 at-bats, the right-handed batter hit .310 with 11 doubles and a .361 OBP.
Gelinas, a 6'5", 230 lbs left-handed pitcher, was selected in the 45th round of the MLB Amateur Draft in 2009 and then drafted by the Mets in the 44th round the following season. The 23-year-old lefty did not sign with either organization, electing instead to return to UC Santa Barbara.
