Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Rod Barajas will make his return to Clear Channel Stadium Thursday night while he works his way back from an injury by playing against the JetHawks for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Barajas becomes the second Major League player, both Dodgers, to make a rehabilitation appearance in Lancaster this season. Pitcher Blake Hawksworth appeared in a game at the end of May.
Bajaras is familiar with the California League and the JetHawks, in particular. Early in his minor league career, Barajas spent parts of three seasons in the Cal League, split between Visalia and High Desert. After making his Major League debut, the Southern California native spent three games playing for the JetHawks as part of an injury rehab in 2003. He had five hits in 12 at bats and drove in three runs with the JetHawks. Rancho Cucamonga becomes the fourth California League team that Barajas will have suited up with in his career.
The Dodger's catcher was hitting .220 with eight home runs this season before injuring his ankle in June. He is currently scheduled to play three games at the Hangar. The plan is for Barajas to serve as the designated hitter Thursday and Friday. If his ankle remains healthy, Barajas may catch the Saturday game.
A 13-year Major League veteran, Barajas has a lifetime batting average of .237 with 117 career home runs.
The JetHawks are in the midst of a seven-game homestand against the Bakersfield Blaze and the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Individual game tickets as well as season ticket plans, mini ticket plans, and group plans, are available at the JetHawks Box Office, by phone at (661) 726-5400 or online by visiting JetHawks.com.
