The Dodge City Law (3-3) will start the second half of their inaugural season on Saturday night when they play the Lincoln Haymakers (2-4) at United Wireless Arena.

In order for the Law to come out of the Lincoln game with a victory they will need to show improvement on offense. Last Saturday against the Salina Bombers the Law's offense made a number of mistakes down the stretch, which Head Coach Sean Ponder said cost the team the chance to win.

"We played pretty well for the first three quarters of the game," Ponder said. "In the fourth quarter we couldn't get anything going on offense and we made some big mistakes. We had a chance to win that game and we let it slip through our fingers."

Ponder said that for the Law to beat Lincoln they will need to protect the quarterback, get the running game going, and follow the game plan.

"Protecting the quarterback is the most important thing we do," Ponder said. "If the offensive line gives Josh Floyd enough time he can make big plays."

"We've allowed a lot of sacks this year," Ponder added. "We can't allow that to continue."

One of the best ways to relieve some of the pressure off the offensive line and the quarterback is to have a balanced offensive attack.

"We have two very talented running backs in D.D. Holyfield and Dominique Carson," Ponder said. " If they start piling up yards on the ground the defense will be forced to make some changes in how they play us. If they are forced to guard against the run we will have more opportunities to pass the ball."

While watching film of the Salina game Ponder noticed that some of the offense's errors were due to players not doing their assigned task.

"We had a really good game plan last week, but we didn't execute it like we needed to. It's important for the players to stay within the scheme and run the plays exactly like they were designed. The little things like running routes properly and maintaining the correct spacing are really important."

On the defensive side of the ball, Ponder said the Law will need to stay focused and be ready for whatever Lincoln does offensively.

"We're going to need to watch the way the offense comes out of the huddle and make changes according to the personnel they have on the field," Ponder said. "We need to be cognizant of who is on the field and what skill sets those players bring to the game."
