Dodge City Announces Team Name

Dodge City Law News Release


After 2 weeks and over 1000 submissions, Dodge City Football has a name. THE DODGE CITY LAW will call United Wireless Arena "home" for their inaugural season in the CPIFL's 2014 season. Adam McElwain, of Hays Kansas, was the winner of the team's naming contest and will receive 2 season tickets. The team's colors are graphite, yellow and silver as depicted in the logo, which is reminiscent of a Wild West Marshall's badge with a star reading "DC" in the center circled by the words Dodge City Est. 2014 and a banner on the right reading "LAW" with the words Professional Indoor Football above and below. Says owner, Ricky Bertz, "In the old wild west there were bandits, desperados, outlaws and plenty of lawless bad guys so it's only fitting that we be called THE LAW since we plan to lay down the law in this league!"

At the same press conference the team announced the team's new Defensive Coordinator, Coach Demetrius Ross.

Head Coach, Sean Ponder, said, "Coach Ross brings a wealth of knowledge and experience and I am really excited to work with him. I think his defense will work really well with my offense and we plan on putting one heck of a product on the field come next year." As a college athlete Coach Ross earned Region 18 All-American honors in junior college in Walla Walla, WA. where he earned an associates degree in Criminal Justice. Ross currently holds the Interception Record of 13 picks in a season with 4 for touchdowns at WWCC. His performance helped him earn a full scholarship to Boise State University. Ross became a Bronco after a home visit from Dirk Koetter, who is now the Offensive Coordinator for the NFL Atlanta Falcons. Ross went on to become 1st Team All Conference and All American status as well being a part of the back-to-back Conference Championships and 2 Humanitarian Bowl wins. This class would go on to set the stage for the Broncos outstanding run to be recognize for a decade of dominance 10 years 10 rings. Ross finished his senior year with 4 picks, 17 pass break-ups, and 4th on the team his senior year with 68 tackles graduating with his BA in Social Science and Public Affairs in 2001.

Ross continued his football career in several leagues after college NFL camps, CFL, AFL, XFL camps, several Indoor leagues IPFL, NIFL, UIF. Demetrius has coached High School as a Defensive Coordinator, Offensive Coordinator along with several skilled positions. In Indoor Professional football he has been a Head Coach in the GIFL, CIFL, as well as having experience as a General Manager and director of Player Personnel. Playing and coaching Ross has over 18 years of experience. He now holds a clipboard in hand and whistle around his neck as he continues his career in coaching giving back to others what the game has given him.

Coach Ross is the very proud father of 4 children, Kaysha-17, Kierra-14, Elijah-5 and Faith-1 and he resides in Ohio during the off-season.

The 2014 season will begin the first Saturday in March and go through the end of June. Season tickets are on sale at the Dodge City Law office located inside the United Wireless Arena 4100 Comanche Street Dodge City Kansas 620-371-7240.
