Traverse City North Stars News Release
TRAVERSE CITY - Alpena forward linemates Chris Lanciano and Anthony McIntyre helped keep Traverse City winless at Northern Lights Arena with a pair of goals each on Saturday as the IceDiggers dealt the North Stars a 5-2 loss in the back end of a North Division home-and-home series.
Steven Oleksy gave Traverse City the early advantage, registering his second power play goal of the season 14:05 into the opening period on assists from Josh Sorenson and defenseman Richie Zobak. Justin Stadler - who had both Alpena goals on Friday in the Stars' 4-2 victory - pulled the Diggers even just 2:32 later with an even strength tally.
Then Lanciano and McIntyre got things going for the hosts' offense, as Lanciano set up McIntyre for a score at 14:29 of the second period and McIntyre reciprocated on a Lanciano power play effort less than two and a half minutes later for what turned out to be the game-winner.
Jake Erway provided his second goal of the year 7:19 into the final stanza, but Lanciano notched his second of the game with 8:36 to play and McIntyre added an empty-netter with 1:05 left.
The IceDiggers, who improved to 5-13-3, foisted 41 shots on net to just 27 for Traverse City. The North Stars did not lose any ground in the North Division standings, and remained in third place at 9-8-2 by virtue of Mahoning Valley's 7-1 loss at Cleveland.
The Stars will take a six-game home winning streak into next weekend's two-game series with Texarkana at Centre ICE arena. The Bandits come into the contest at 12-4-1 after splitting a home-and-home set with defending NAHL champion Texas. Both the Friday and Saturday contests are slated for 7:30 face-offs. The Saturday, Nov. 19 contest will be preceded by the Pat Erway Hockey Benefit game at 5 p.m.
