
Diaz and King Receive WCL's Moss Adams Weekly Accolades

The West Coast League's Moss Adams Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, as announced by league commissioner Rob Neyer, are St. Mary's sophomore-to-be shortstop Gio Diaz of the Portland Pickles and San Francisco sophomore-to-be pitcher Haydn King of the Walla Walla Sweets for the week of July 9-16.
Diaz, who is second in the league in hitting with a .362 batting average, went 12-for-22 with 8 runs scored, 2 doubles, 2 homers and 6 RBIs. For the summer, Diaz has blasted 9 doubles and 5 home runs while collecting 25 RBIs and swiping a league-leading 15 bases.
This past spring as a frosh, Diaz hit .319 for the Gaels with 7 doubles and 16 RBIs over 94 at bats.
King pitched a gem at Portland on July 11th in the Sweets 2-1 win over the first-half South champion Pickles. King struck out 11 over 5 innings while allowing six hits, one walk and a run in getting a no decision. This summer, King is 2-1 with a 2.88 ERA over 6 appearances and 5 starts. The southpaw has struck out 33 over 25 innings pitched for Walla Walla.
As a frosh at USF, King went 0-2 with a 7.31 ERA over 11 appearances and 4 starts.
