Developments: A Peek into the NBDL This Week
December 15, 2003 - NBA G League (G League) News Release
SCOUTING THE D-LEAGUE
Is the basketball talent on the rise in the NBDL? If the presence of NBA scouts is any indicator, it is. NBA teams have sent scouts to 22 of 24 total NBDL games this season (92-percent). NBA scouts attended just over 60-percent of NBDL games last season.
"GET ME THE BALL" FIVE WAYS
When Roanoke Dazzle post player Chris Christoffersen wants the basketball down on the block there are five different ways he can ask for it. Christoffersen, from Denmark, speaks five languages: Danish, English, Italian, Norwegian and German.
SCHOOL DAYS
Basketball joins reading, writing and arithmetic as a school day staple in Huntsville this Wednesday. Along with the Fayetteville Patriots, the Flight is hosting approximately 3,500 kids from eight Huntsville area elementary schools at 11 a.m. CT in one of Huntsville's "School Days" promotions.
INSIDE STUFF
A crew from "Inside Stuff" spent last weekend in Roanoke chronicling life with the Dazzle's Owens brothers, Kevin and Geoff, who are the only brothers playing on the same team in professional basketball.

SCORING ON THE RISE
The switch to 48-minutes games is paying dividends on NBDL scoreboards. Last season, NBDL teams averaged 84.3 points per game. Through games of Dec. 14 this season, teams are averaging 94.1 points per game. The NBDL team single game scoring record of 120 points was threatened twice last week when Columbus put up 118 at Fayetteville and Charleston hung a 116-spot on the Patriots at the North Charleston Coliseum.
TOP PERFORMANCES LAST WEEK
· Desmond Penigar of Asheville scored a league-high 35 points at Huntsville on Dec. 12.
· Lonnie Harrell of Columbus poured in 30 points at Fayetteville on Dec. 12.
· Mikki Moore of Roanoke grabbed 18 rebounds against Columbus on Dec. 13, two short of the NBDL single-game record.
· Derrick Zimmerman dished out 13 assists to his Columbus teammates at Fayetteville on Dec. 12.
· Huntsville's Ken Johnson blocked seven (7) shots against Asheville on Dec. 12, marking the second time this season Johnson has blocked seven shots in a game.
· Roanoke guard Marque Perry recorded five steals against Columbus on Dec. 13.
WHO'S HOT
Thanks to a 6-1 record, the Huntsville Flight leads Roanoke and Charleston by 1½ games in the standings. The Charleston Lowgators have won five of their last six games after getting off to an 0-2 start.
WHO'S NOT
The Asheville Altitude has lost three consecutive games to drop to 2-6. The Fayetteville Patriots have lost two straight and given up an average of 117 points in the process.
TAKE ME AWAY
Both Huntsville and Roanoke have proven to be early season road warriors. The Flight is 3-1 on the road and 3-0 at home, but the Dazzle offers a stark difference. Roanoke is 3-0 on the road, but just 2-3 at the Roanoke Civic Center. The Asheville Altitude is 2-6 and has yet to win at home this year (0-4).
