Detroit Shock News Release

Auburn Hills, MI - The WNBA announced today that Detroit Shock guard Deanna Nolan was named to the All-WNBA First Team by a nationwide media panel. It is the first-ever First Team nod for a member of the Shock in the eight-year history of the franchise. Former Detroit forward Cindy Brown was the first Shock player to earn All-WNBA honors making the Second Team following the team's inaugural 1998 campaign. Nolan, Swin Cash and Cheryl Ford were named to the All-WNBA Second Team in 2003, and Cash earned Second Team honors again following the 2004 season.

"Deanna Nolan took another step towards becoming one of the best players in the WNBA this season," said Shock Head Coach Bill Laimbeer, "and the media voting her to the All-WNBA First Team punctuates that. Not only was she our team MVP this year, but she was probably our most versatile player as well. She can defend against almost any player in the league, and despite being a natural shooting guard, she ran the point for us for long stretches this season and did so at a very high level of effectiveness."

Nolan began the season in electric fashion notching the fourth triple-double (11 pts, 10 rebs, 11 asts) in league history in the Shock's home opening win over Connecticut. She posted her second point-assist double-double (11 pts, 10 asts) of the season two games later against San Antonio. The following game, vs. New York, Nolan scored a team record and WNBA season-high 34 points. And on June 15, she recorded her second 30-plus point game of the season pouring in 32 at Indiana.

For the season, Nolan led the Shock in scoring (15.9), assists (3.7) and steals (1.67) establishing career highs in scoring, assists and rebounding (4.7). She finished the season ranked fifth in the WNBA in scoring, second in minutes played (36.8), 11th in assists and eighth in steals.

Joining Nolan on the First Team were Seattle guard Sue Bird, Houston forward Sheryl Swoopes, Seattle forward Lauren Jackson, and Sacramento center Yolanda Griffith. The Second Team, All-WNBA is comprised of Phoenix guard Diana Taurasi, New York guard Becky Hammon, Connecticut forward Taj McWilliams-Franklin, Indiana forward Tamika Catchings and Los Angeles center Lisa Leslie.
