Detroit Shock News Release
DETROIT SHOCK HEAD COACH BILL LAIMBEER: (On the game): "We got off to a good start. Our defense carried us through the first quarter, gave us a big lead, and we kind of coasted from there, basically, but throughout the course of the game our defense was pretty solid."
(On the difference between tonight's game and Thursday's game against New York): "I think we came to play in the first quarter, especially. In New York, we just didn't show up. We were just playing a basketball game. Today, we played to win. We did a good job, had a lot of good performances by a lot of people."
DETROIT SHOCK FORWARD SWIN CASH: (On the game): "I thought we played well, there were a couple of lulls in there but we wanted to come out like we did in the first half, and I thought throughout different players stepped up for us."
(On Cheryl Ford): "She was dominant, we kept going to her. She was a force to be reckoned with. Anytime players are playing like that, you want to just ride them.
DETROIT SHOCK FORWARD CHERYL FORD: (On the difference between tonight's game and Thursday's game against New York): "We came out and played hard from the beginning. In New York, we didn't come out and play hard."
(On her performance): "We executed our game plan, and that was to get the ball inside and when they came to double and triple team us, we got it back out to our guards and they hit the open shots."
NEW YORK LIBERTY HEAD COACH PAT COYLE: (On the game) "We spotted them a big lead in the first quarter and we just didn't recover from it. Pretty much we outscored them in the next three quarters by five. The first quarter hurt us."
(On the free throw disparity) "That's typical. You never get fouled on the other end of the court."
(On the guard play) "We've begun to play much better. We've got a lot more confidence and we'll continue to do that."
NEW YORK LIBERTY GUARD LOREE MOORE (On the game) "Just the back-to-back. We were a little flat and we couldn't get out like we wanted to and I think we settled for some easy jump shots that they were making us take. We really weren't getting to the inside like we have been doing in the past and it kind of got us in trouble in the beginning of the game. Every little run we had they had a come back for. We were making shots and then they were making shots instead of us getting stops. It's something that we have to learn from get ready for the game on Tuesday "
(On the turnovers) "That's another part of it too. Taking care of the ball, making better decisions with the ball and finishing shots. We had a lot of easy shots that we had that we just weren't knocking down."
(On Cheryl Ford) "She was a beast tonight. We were having trouble stopping her. You have that sometimes where she's having a great night and you have to shutdown everyone else but we weren't able to do that."
