Detroit Shock Sign Kelly Schumacher

Auburn Hills, MI - Detroit Shock Head Coach and General Manager Bill Laimbeer announced today that the team has signed 6-foot-5 center Kelly Schumacher to a rest of season contract. Per team policy, details of the contract were not disclosed.
Schumacher, 30, came off the bench in all 34 games last season with the 2007 champion Phoenix Mercury, averaging 4.4 points and 4.3 rebounds in 16.0 minutes per game. Prior to being acquired by Phoenix, Schumacher spent one season with the New York Liberty in 2006. She spent her first five seasons with the Indiana Fever, which included two playoff appearances in 2002 and 2005.
Entering her eighth WNBA season the University of Connecticut product has career averages of 5.1 points, 3.1 rebounds in 15.9 minutes per game.
