Virginia Destroyers News Release

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA - June 22, 2011 - The Virginia Destroyers will unveil the uniforms to be worn by Head Coach Marty Schottenheimer's team through an innovative social media scavenger hunt that kicks off today.

Pieces of an online jigsaw puzzle that will gradually form a completed picture of the team's uniforms for the 2011 United Football League season will be released through team facebook and website pages.

The first three pieces of the puzzle can be found at [2]www.VirginiaDestroyers.com and [3]www.facebook.com/VADestroyers.

During the course of several days, additional pieces will be released for fans to find to build a visual image of the home colors that will be worn when the Destroyers debut at the Virginia Beach SportPlex against the Hartford Colonials on August 13. The Destroyers will also point fans in the direction of the latest pieces to be unveiled via Twitter.

"With training camp just around the corner, the unveiling of the Virginia Destroyers uniform is just another exciting piece of the puzzle as we prepare for the season home opening on August 13," said Vice President of Sales and Marketing John Castleberry. "The introduction of the uniforms builds on our momentum as we get set for the sale of season tickets beginning in early July."

As the jigsaw takes shape, the Destroyers will announce a date and venue where the full home and away uniforms and team helmets will be presented to fans and media and the final pieces of the puzzle will be put in place.

The scavenger hunt embraces an ongoing series of innovative social media initiatives championed by the UFL since the league kicked off in 2009. In May every selection in the 2011 UFL Draft was announced exclusively through head coach Twitter accounts, while Marty Schottenheimer confirmed his appointment as Destroyers head coach via Twitter. The 2010 UFL Championship Game was the first-ever sporting event broadcast live worldwide via the YouTube platform and allowed fans to interact with the webcast's studio host through social media.
