Quebec Major Junior Hockey League

Desnoyers and Gaucher brothers voted Guy-Carbonneau Trophy Finalists

May 16, 2022 - Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release

Montreal, QC - Elliot Desnoyers (Halifax Mooseheads), Jacob Gaucher (Baie-Comeau Drakkar) and Nathan Gaucher (Quebec Remparts) have been named the three finalists for the 2021-22 Guy-Carbonneau Trophy awarded to the best defensive forward. Past recipients of this award include Phillip Danault of the Los Angeles Kings and Nicolas Roy of the Vegas Golden Knights.

The award is named after Sept-Iles native, Guy Carbonneau, who played four seasons in the QMJHL with the Chicoutimi Saguenéens and won three Frank-J.-Selke trophies while playing in the National Hockey League. He was inducted into the QMJHL Hall of Fame in 2001 after posting phenomenal numbers (274 GP-171G-264A) in major junior. He was also elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame last year, following a career spanning 1,318 NHL games.

Elliot Desnoyers continued to show solid improvement in his fourth QMJHL season. This year, the Halifax Mooseheads captain piled up 42 goals and 46 assists, almost doubling his point production from last season. The Philadelphia Flyers prospect also maintained a +18 rating, helping his young team finish in fifth position of a powerful Eastern Conference.

Winner of the 2021-22 Marcel-Robert Trophy, Jacob Gaucher enjoyed a stellar season. The Longueuil native exploded offensively with 35 goals and 33 assists in his final campaign. In addition to his point production, his leadership and defensive play helped a young Baie-Comeau Drakkar squad clinch a playoff spot.

Already nominated for the Michael-Bossy Trophy, Nathan Gaucher is also nominated for the Guy-Carbonneau Trophy for a second straight year. With an impressive +30 rating, the young NHL prospect was a vital component of the Remparts' successes this season. He ended the 2021-22 campaign with 57 points, but what really stood out was his stellar play without the puck.
