Derrick Dial Called Up

Southern California Surf News Release

ANAHEIM, Ca – The Toronto Raptors of the NBA called up Derrick Dial from the Southern California Surf on Wednesday.

Dial was the American Basketball Association's (ABA) leading scorer at 27.4 points a game and was second in assist's in the league dishing out seven per contest. He was also second in three pointer's made with 79 total in 25 games, an average of 3.2 per game and ranked in the top 12 in the league in steals (1.4) and rebounds (7.2).

The Surf will sorely miss Dial, who has played in the NBA before with the New Jersey Nets and the San Antonio Spurs. "He was an emotional leader on this team, he came to play every game." said Surf head coach Scott Brooks. "You just can't replace a guy like that, I'm sure he'll do well in Toronto."

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
