Demps' Relentless Pursuit of His NBA Dreams
November 1, 2019 - NBA G League (G League)
Stockton Kings News Release
The Stockton Kings guard is continuing to persevere to make his dreams a reality.
Cody Demps is no stranger to the city of Sacramento.
Growing up in Elk Grove, he's been a stone's throw away from the biggest and brightest of the Sacramento basketball community.
Demps has remained local throughout his basketball career - attending Pleasant Grove High School, Sacramento State, joining the Reno Bighorns (then affiliate of the Sacramento Kings), he has been a fixture in Sacramento and now remains so heading into his second season with the Stockton Kings.
Last season, he received the chance of a lifetime when he was called up to the Sacramento roster.
"Man, it was amazing, getting that call from my (general manager) to come down, that the Kings wanted to sign me to a 10-day contract," Demps said to Richard Ivanowski of the State Hornet.
"Being a local guy, I think that was the icing on the top. It made it that much more perfect. Not just for me, but for the Kings organization.
That call up may have been the most impactful, but it's not Cody's first brush with the Association.
In 2018, he was chosen by the Kings to represent the team in Summer League. Following that stint, he has had workouts with Oklahoma City Thunder and the Utah Jazz.
He then spent this past summer participating in Summer League with the Indiana Pacers.
While Demps would be ecstatic to join an NBA roster, he mentioned how special it would be if it was with the parent club.
"Sacramento is my home, so that would mean a whole lot."
"Any professional team that's willing to give me a chance, I'm willing to go out and do it for them. But it would be extra special if it were in Sacramento."
Cody will be back with Stockton for the upcoming season, tipping off on November 8.
