Delgado, Stubbs Capture World TeamTennis MVP Honors

ROSEVILLE, CALIF. (July 25, 2008) -- Ramon Delgado of the Newport Beach Breakers, and
Rennae Stubbs, from the Kansas City Explorers, were named the Male and Female MVPs of the
2008 World TeamTennis season, League officials announced today during the WTT
Championship Weekend in Roseville, Calif.
In other late season news, WTT also announced Travis Parrott of the Philadelphia Freedoms, and
Yaroslava Shvedova of the New York Buzz, picked up the WTT Rookie of the Year honors and
Kansas City Explorers coach Brent Haygarth was named the 2008 WTT Coach of the Year.
Delgado finished atop the men's singles standings, winning 63 men's singles games and posting a
61% winning percentage in his singles matches. The popular Paraguay native was a bright spot
in a season that saw the Newport Beach Breakers finish in a tie for third place in the Western
Conference. "I'm excited to have this recognition but I could not have done it without the great
play and support from my Breakers teammates and coach Kronemann," said Delgado.
Stubbs was the League's best overall doubles player in 2008, capturing 65 women's doubles
games and 64 mixed doubles games, winning 60% of her matches this season. This is the first
WTT MVP award for both Delgado and Stubbs.
"I am very proud to have contributed enough throughout the season to win this award but I have
to thank my doubles partner, Kveta Peschke, my mixed doubles partners, Dusan Vemic and Bob
and Mike Bryan as well as coach Brent Haygarth and teammate James Auckland for making it all
happen," Stubbs said. "The best thing about World TeamTennis is the team concept and the
importance of every player playing well and contributing positively to the team's results."
In her first year with the New York Buzz, Shvedova finished the regular season with the second
best record in women's singles, winning 58 games, and the fourth best record in women's
doubles, a 63-42 mark with Gabriela Navratilova.
Playing his first full season with the Philadelphia Freedoms, Parrott finished with a strong
doubles record, finishing fourth in men's doubles and sixth in mixed doubles.
In his second season at the helm of the Kansas City Explorers, Haygarth lead the team to the
Western Conference title and a WTT-best 13-1 regular season record. The Explorers are the top
seeds in the 2008 WTT Championship Weekend and are making their third appearance in the
season-ending event.
