Delevski Named MISL MVP
Published on May 9, 2002 under Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2) News Release
(Westport, Conn., May 9, 2002) â Dino Delevski of the Kansas City Comets has been named the 2001-02 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Most Valuable Player, the League announced on Thursday. Delevski was selected through a voting process involving MISL team management and a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters from each of the League's host cities.
Voters were asked to list three MVP candidates. A first-place ballot was worth five points, a second-place selection was worth three points, and a third-place vote was worth one point.
Delevski, 25, becomes the youngest player ever to receive the League's top individual honor after leading the MISL in scoring and claiming the SPALDING Scoring Champion Award following a 210-point campaign.
The Oklahoma City University product received 100 points and 13 first-place votes. Milwaukee's Joe Reiniger finished second in the voting with 42 points and four first-place votes. The Wave's Victor Nogueira was third with 34 points and four first-place ballots.
Delevski dominated the MISL scoring chart during the 2001-02 campaign, despite playing in just his second full season of professional indoor soccer. The Native of Macedonia paced the MISL and established a League single-season record with 21 3-point goals while also leading the circuit in 2-pont goals (51) and total goals (86).
The 2001-02 All-MISL First Team selection also displayed a knack for scoring big goals as the striker led the MISL in game-winning tallies (six) while finishing tied for the League lead in 1-point shootout goals (14).
Delevski averaged 4.88 points and two goals per outing during the 2001-02 regular season while leading the Comets to a 24-20 record and a berth in the MISL Playoffs. His 210-point performance established a Kansas City single-season club scoring record, eclipsing the mark of 181 points established by current Comets player/assistant coach Goran Hunjak during the 1994-95 campaign.
The two-time all-star was honored as the MISL Offensive Player of the Week for the seven day periods ending December 2, January 13, March 3, March 17, March 24, March 31, and April 14. Delevski was also honored as the MISL Offensive Player of the Month for January, March, and April.
Delevski has posted 154 goals, 50 assists, and 376 points in just 95 career games. The forward has averaged 3.96 points and 1.62 goals per outing during his professional indoor career.
