Detroit Shock News Release

Auburn Hills, MI - The Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association (DSBA) announced today that Flint native Deanna Nolan was named the Detroit Shock's 2007 Most Valuable Player in voting conducted by DSBA members throughout the month of October.

During the 2007 season Nolan averaged 16.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.4 steals in 34.6 minutes per game, helping guide the Shock to the best regular-season record in the league and its third WNBA Finals appearance in five years.

Nolan was also honored this season by a panel of local and national media with her second All-WNBA First Team designation and first All-Defensive First Team selection.

The four-time WNBA All-Star moved herself into the top 25 in league history in points per game this season, and became the 32nd player in league history to notch 2,500 career points. She now ranks 30th all-time in the WNBA in career scoring.

On July 24th Nolan had a career-high 36-point outing vs. the Connecticut Sun, setting a number of franchise and WNBA records in the process including beating her own team record for most points in a game (previously 34), and tying the WNBA record for most field goals in a quarter with seven. Two weeks later Nolan was named WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week.

In addition to her accolades on the court, Nolan was also recognized this past season off the court for her commitment to her hometown of Flint, Michigan when the WNBA honored her with the Community Assist Award, donating $5,000 to the Nolan Foundation.
