
Deadline Approaching for Riverdragons 2004 Open Player Tryouts, October 23-24

COLUMBUS, Ga.âThe Columbus Riverdragons will hold their fourth annual open player tryouts October 23 and 24 at Northside High School in Columbus. The open player tryouts provide local talent with the opportunity to win a spot for the Riverdragons 2004-05 training camp that begins November 7.
The first 125 players to complete all pre-registration forms, including a $100 registration fee (cashier's check or money order only), will be eligible for the camp. The deadline for all applicants to turn in their forms and fee is 5 p.m. on October 20, 2004. Those applicants who are unable to turn in their registration materials prior to the deadline or wish to pay on the day of the tryouts, will have to pay a $125 registration fee to participate. All pre-registration forms can be obtained by logging onto www.columbusriverdragons.com. Pre-registration forms can also be picked up at the Riverdragons office located at 18 East 11th Street in Uptown Columbus.
The tryout will be directed by Riverdragons Head Coach and 13-year NBA veteran Jeff Malone. For more information, contact Riverdragons Media Relations Manager Tim Becwar at (706) 225-1104.
The open player tryouts will feature one session per day and both days are open to the public. The Saturday, October 23 session will run from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.. Riverdragons coaches will then select 20 players from Saturday's session to advance to the Sunday, October 24 session that will also run from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.. With league approval, participants from the open player tryouts will have a chance to be invited to compete in the Riverdragons training camp, starting November 7.

The NBDL, the NBA's minor league, includes the Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), NBDL Florida, Huntsville Flight (Ala.), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.), Columbus Riverdragons (Ga.) and Asheville Altitude (N.C.).
The league offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Twenty-eight (28) players have been called up to the NBA on 39 separate occasions, and 52 NBDL players are currently competing in 2004 NBA training camps. Nine former NBDL coaches, six athletic trainers, six referees and 34 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.
