
De Guzman Named to NASL Team of the Week

OTTAWA, ON - Ottawa Fury FC midfielder Julian De Guzman has been named to the NASL Team of the Week, the League announced Wednesday, thanks to another sound performance in the midfield helping Ottawa shutout FC Edmonton, the highest scoring team in the NASL, Friday night in front of a boisterous crowd at TD Place. A vital point earned for Fury FC marked the third straight shutout for the team that hasn't surrendered a goal in 344 minutes.
Brought in for his leadership, experience and poise in the midfield, De Guzman has be a welcomed addition to the Ottawa midfield that has been crippled with injuries this season with captain Richie Ryan seeing just 25 minutes of action due to injury. The captain of the Canadian Men's National Team has stepped in has played a major role in assisting the club's recent turnaround.
On Tuesday, Canadian Men's National Team Head Coach Benito Floro announced Canada's 23-man squad for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers that included the Fury FC midfielder. De Guzman's leadership will be heavily relied on later this month as Canada begins its odessey to the next FIFA World Cup in 2018 and the National Team will also compete in the CONCACAF GOLD Cup beginning in late June and running through the better part of July.
