June 2, 2005 - American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) News Release
NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. â Two area businessmen have secured the rights for an Atlantic Indoor Football League (AIFL) franchise for the 2006 season.
Zack McDonald, CEO of TUI Business Machines, and his brother Kevin McDonald, President of KamTam Corp., are proud to make this announcement, along with AIFL Owner/President Andrew Haines.
"We are both passionate football fans in addition to being local businessmen with a deep sense of community,'' Zack McDonald said. "This team will be an integral part of the Daytona Beach area both on and off the field."
Zack McDonald said that he has secured exclusive rights for the use of the Ocean Center for the team's inaugural season.
"There are still fine points to be negotiated, but we have exclusive rights for this great facility,'' Zack McDonald. "I'm looking forward to a prosperous relationship with the Ocean Center and am confident we'll build a long-lasting partnership."
Based in Canton, Ohio, the AIFL is in its first season of play with franchises in Richmond, Va.; Erie, Pa.; Canton and Johnstown, Pa. along with two travel teams slated for placement next season. The league just announced its first expansion franchise this week in Steubenville, Ohio.
"We are fortunate to be involved in a league that's growing and developing,'' Zack McDonald said. "There's a lot of potential that we will help develop."
Said Haines: "The AIFL is excited to be in Florida and excited to be coming to Daytona Beach. Florida's a great football state with a lot of a talent. It is also a challenging market, but I'm confident the McDonalds can put together a franchise that will make us all proud."
