Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) host the Lake County Captains (affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians) at Day Air Ballpark in the heart of the Water Street District. This is the first game of a seven-game series.

Season Series vs. Lake County: Dayton 7, Lake County 4.

Dragons in the Standings: Dayton is in first place in the MWL East Division, one-half game ahead of Great Lakes with four games to play in the first half season. The final day of the first half is June 23. The Dragons "magic number" is four to eliminate Great Lakes. Lake County, West Michigan, Fort Wayne, and Lansing have been eliminated.

Historical Perspective: The Dragons have earned two first half division titles in their 21 seasons, winning the first half East Division title in 2001 and again in 2007. Their last second half division title came in 2011.

Last Game: Sunday: Cedar Rapids 4, Dragons 3. The Kernels broke a 3-3 tie with one run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Neither team led by more than one run during the game and both teams have two different leads. Nick Quintana hit a tie-breaking home run in the top of the seventh to give Dayton a brief 3-2 lead. Rece Hinds hit a top of the first homer for the Dragons.

Player Notes

Elly De La Cruz (seventh youngest position player in the league with at least 100 AB) over his last 22 games is batting .360 with seven home runs and 20 RBI. De La Cruz is second in the MWL in extra base hits (31), second in batting average (.304), second in slugging percentage (.594), tied for second in RBI (43), fourth in home runs (13).

Allan Cerda over his last 16 games has six home runs and 14 RBI.

Justice Thompson over his last 25 games is batting .292 with three home runs and 15 RBI.

Nick Quintana over his last 20 games is batting .290 with one home run and 16 RBI.

Joe Boyle has an earned run average of 0.78 and opponent's batting average of .089 on the year, but he is four innings short of having the minimum number of innings to qualify for the league lead.

Connor Phillips is tied for first in the MWL in strikeouts with 84 and first in opponent batting average (.171). Since April 28, Phillips has made eight starts, posting a 2.35 ERA (46 IP, 26 H, 14 R, 12 ER, 17 BB, 63 SO).

Make-Up Game: The Dragons will host Lake County in a make-up doubleheader on Wednesday, June 22. First game starts at 5:35 p.m. This is the result of a rain-out on May 6.
