Day One Recap of the Windsor Spitfires Prospect Camp

(Windsor) The Windsor Spitfires today opened day one of their prospect camp at the WFCU Centre, welcoming 33 players drafted by the Spitfires in the 2008 and 2009 OHL Priority Selections as well as free agents invited by the team. All players participated in a fitness testing session consisting of seven exercises and a practice. The leaders of each individual exercise within the fitness testing component were:

Bench Press (155 pounds) - Matt Mascarin, Defence, Brantford Golden Eagles Jr. B (GOJHL) - 25

Sit-Ups - Patrick Murphy, Defence, LaSalle Vipers Jr. B (GOJHL) - 48

Chin-Ups - Branden Larocque, Forward, Windsor Jr. Spitfires Major Midget AAA (Alliance) - 22

Agility - 4 players tied, Travis James, Defence, Mississauga Chargers (OPJHL)

Matthew Peca, Forward, Ottawa Valley Titans Minor Midget AAA (OMHA)

Dylan Seguin, Forward, Sun County Panthers Minor Midget AAA (Alliance)

Michael Nishi, Goalie, Toronto Jr. Canadiens Minor Midget AAA (GTHL)

Long Jump - Patrick Murphy, Defence, LaSalle Vipers Jr. B (GOJHL) - 113 inches

Speed interval drill - 2 players tied, Matthew Peca, Forward, Ottawa Valley Titans Minor Midget AAA (OMHA)

Nolan Kirley, Defense, Wisconsin (USMHL)

Endurance - Matthew Peca, Forward, Ottawa Valley Titans Minor Midget AAA (OMHA)

The prospect camp will resume tomorrow (Saturday, August 1) as all players will be split into two teams for a scrimmage from 10 a.m. until noon at the Windsor Star rink. Admission is free and the general public is encouraged to attend.

The team will also host a used equipment sale and photo opportunity with the Memorial Cup and J. Ross Robertson OHL Championship trophy tomorrow at Blades Pro Shop within the WFCU Centre. Men's and women's Memorial Cup merchandise will also be available for purchase as well as copies of the Spitfires' 2008/09 "Dream Season" DVD and Yearbook package for $34.99 plus tax. Blades will be open from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Fans are also encouraged to attend a season ticket open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow and will be able to view and purchase available seats for the 2009 - 2010 season.
