Philadelphia Soul News Release
PHILADELPHIA (March 7, 2012) - The Soul coaches and players put in another morning's worth of hard work today. With only two days of practice left in camp the team is starting to come together, but that doesn't mean the anticipation and sense of urgency among the team has dissipated.
No one took a snap off this morning. The offense was crisp, the defense aggressive, and the coaching staff busy installing the 2012 playbook. Everyone knows how important each snap is from now until the season opener down in the Big Easy.
The Soul have two days of practice left in the 2012 training camp. Friday, March 9 marks the end of camp and the start of the 2012 Arena Football League regular season.
PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: WR LARRY BRACKINS (6'4, 221, Pearl River C.C.): Played for the Soul in 2011, finishing fourth on team in receiving with 492 yards in 41 attempts and 13 touchdowns . 10.5 total tackles and three assists in 2011 . Played for the Dallas Vigilantes in 2010, recording 61 receptions for 734 yards and 20 touchdowns, 24 tackles, 11 assists, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one kick return . Played for the Philadelphia Soul (2007-08), member of the ArenaBowl XXII champion team, recording 107 receptions for 1,412 yards and 29 touchdowns throughout the regular season and added 20 receptions for 249 yards and five touchdowns in three playoff games . Offensively recorded 56 passes for 786 yards and 20 touchdowns, and added 12.5 total tackles defensively in 2007
QUOTE OF THE DAY: "Practice has been very up tempo. I really like the progression of the defensive line from last year. I love our starting line on offense," said Soul defensive lineman Darrell Campbell. "They're starting to gel with everyone else. I love our receivers, I love the backfield defensively, and the coaching staff. They're getting after it and staying on us. I really can't complain with our progress so far."
THIS DAY IN HISTORY: On this day in 1987, Mike Tyson defeated James "Bonecrusher" Smith to unify his boxing heavyweight titles in the WBC and WBA. This made Tyson not just the youngest heavyweight champion ever, but the youngest undisputed heavyweight champion in history.
In 2012, the Philadelphia Soul look to make a run at the ArenaBowl XXV title to add to their ArenaBowl XXII championship from 2008.
