
David Jenkins Named MLL Defensive Player of the Week

Boston, MA (June 19, 2006) - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced today that midfielder David Jenkins has been selected as the MLL Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Boston's 18-15 victory over the San Francisco Dragons this past weekend.
Jenkins won an impressive 69% of the face-offs he took (25 of 36), going up against former Cannons face-off specialist Peter Inge on 21 of those attempts. In addition, Jenkins led all players in the game with 11 groundballs.
Jenkins was at his best in the second half. He was unstoppable late in the third quarter and the fourth quarter keying Boston's come from behind victory.
In recent weeks Jenkins has broken several Cannons all-time records.
Jenkins entered the 2006 season with 166 groundballs, just three shy of the previous record. He became the Cannons all-time leader in groundballs in Boston's season-opening loss to the New Jersey Pride on May 20th.
Jenkins broke the Cannons record for face-off attempts in Boston's 15-13 victory over the Long Island Lizards at Nickerson Field on June 3rd. He broke the Cannons record for face-off wins in Boston's 20-13 victory over the Los Angeles Riptide on June 10th.
All three records had previously been held by former Cannon and current San Francisco Dragon Peter Inge. In three seasons with the Cannons, Inge had 433 face-off wins in 833 attempts.
In five games for the Cannons this season, Jenkins is 84 of 151 (56%) on face-offs and has 32 groundballs. All-time for the Cannons, Jenkins is 461 of 919 (50%) on face-offs and has 198 groundballs. This is his fourth season with Boston.
Jenkins started with the Cannons in 2001, before retiring from the sport following the 2002 season. He returned to the Cannons in 2005 and had an impressive year, going 118-234 at the face-off X and scoring a career-high 3 goals and 2 assists.
Boston's next home game is Saturday, June 24, when the undefeated Philadelphia Barrage travels to Nickerson Field. The game, which will begin at 7:00 PM, will be the first meeting between Boston and Philadelphia this season.
