Danville Dans Have Record Setting Season

August 15, 2019 - Prospect League (Prospect) - Danville Dans News Release

(DANVILLE, IL) - The 2019 Danville Dans baseball squad broke one of their own Prospect League team records this season and set two others.

The Dans pitching staff set a new Prospect League record by striking out 583 batters. That breaks the old mark set by the 2017 Dans.

Tanner Green, a right-handed sophomore-to-be from University of Houston, led the staff with 55 Ks. That was tied for 7th most in the league. He threw seven strikeouts in three different games for his season high - including in his final two starts.

The Dans offense made their mark in the record book as well. Danville scored 483 runs this year, surpassing the previous high of 476 runs scored by both the 2012 Chillicothe Paints and the 2017 Lafayette Aviators. Dans hitters also set a new on-base percentage record at .417, topping the 2012 Chillicothe record of .404.

Infielder Max Jung-Goldberg, a sophomore-to-be at University of San Diego, led the team with 53 runs scored, which ranked seventh in the league. He and infielder Bradford Powers, a senior-to-be at Towson University, each had 62 hits. And Powers led the team and Prospect League with 40 walks. Jung-Goldberg and Andrews Meggs, a red-shirt sophomore at Creighton, added 39 walks each.

While not new Prospect League records, the Dans did set new franchise highs for doubles, triples and home runs. They had 66 round trippers this year, topping the previous high of 40 in 2017. They smashed 116 doubles, besting their 111 in 2017. And they banged out 24 triples, one more than the 23 hit last season. Powers let the team with 16 doubles (7th in the Prospect League), while Meggs, Jung-Goldberg and Walker McCleney, a senior-to-be outfielder at Alabama, each had four three-baggers. Jung-Goldberg, Powers and catcher Craig Keuchel, a sophomore from Hill College, each swatted nine home runs.

The Dans finished the season with a 40-21 mark, the second-highest win total in team history. They won the East Division regular season standings and lost a one-game playoff to eventual Prospect League Champions Chillicothe Paints by a score of 3-1.

Also this year, Dans manager Eric Coleman achieved his 200th career victory with the Dans. He has been with the team for six season, and has taken them to the playoffs four of his six years. His total mark with the Dans is 205-162, including 2-7 in post-season play.

The Danville Dans are a founding member of the Prospect League, one of the premier college summer leagues in the nation. Baseball players from California, Florida, Texas and all across the South and the Midwest come to Danville every summer to improve their pitching, fielding and hitting skills in this wooden bat league.
