Danville Dans News Release
(Danville, IL) - It's only appropriate that a stolen base help lead to Danville Dans manager Eric Coleman recording his 200th career win at the helm of the Dans. The team defeated Chillicothe Paints with a 1-0 victory in 12 innings Wednesday night at Danville Stadium.
After Brad Powers (Towson) walked to lead off the 12th for the Dans, Coleman put Walker McCleney (Alabama) in as a pinch runner. Following several attempts that were thwarted by foul balls, McCleney stole second and reached third on an errant throw. Sam Crail (Indiana) lined a base hit to right field, allowing the winning run to score for the Dans first walk-off win of the season.
This is Coleman's sixth season leading the Dans. In the previous five seasons, the Dans have set three stolen base records for the Prospect League, including swiping 164 bases last year. This year's team is relying more on power than speed. They've only stolen 107 bases this season. But the team has led the league in batting average for most of the year (currently at .298). They've also hit franchise records of 60 home runs and 24 triples. And they're just six short of their club record for doubles, with 105.
Good pitching has also been a Coleman standard. Dans teams under his leadership have set the Prospect League strikeout record in 2016 (492) and 2017 (575). They currently lead the league with 514 Ks this season, with seven games to go. And all but one pitching staff has been in the top four for team ERA, with this year's staff ranking in the top four five of the six seasons, including a 4.32 this year (2nd in the league).
This is Coleman's 18th year coaching in summer league baseball. There have been 26 Dans players from his six squad that have either been drafted or signed professional contracts.
"We're proud of Eric's accomplishments with the Dans over these past six seasons," said Dans managing partner Jeanie Cooke. "His work ethic is unquestionable, and he has a great knowledge of the game and the players in baseball."
Danville Dans are a founding member of the Prospect League. Now in their 32nd year, the team has produced 28 former Dans that have won an MLB uniform, including current players Tanner Roark (Athletics), Mitch Moreland (Red Sox), Mikie Mahtook (Tigers) and Austin Nola (Mariners).
