Danville Dans News Release

After beating Quincy 7-3 earlier in the day, the Danville Dans gave it all they had to win the Prospect League Championship, including two extra innings. But the Paints got a two-run walk-off homer in the 11th to defeat the Dans 7-6.

Chillicothe started the scoring in the 2nd with back-to-back doubles by Greg Van Horn and Jeff Onstott. He came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Adam Gecewich.

Tyler Brubaker (Pepperdine) scored the Dans first run in the 3rd on a Sam Frost (Mississippi State) triple. The Dans big blow came in the 5th when Alex Edward (LSU) hit a grand slam to make the score 5-2. The Paints got two runs back in the 6th on three straight hits and sacrifice fly.

The Dans had two on with one out in the ninth, but were unable to bring them home. In their half of the inning, Chillicothe's Onstott walked, Nielsen reached on a fielders' choice bunt, and Gecewich was hit by the pitch. The Dans got a break when Trace Voshell lined into a double-play. Cody Elliott then got an infield hit to tie the game at 5-5 before the final out. Both teams went three up and three down in the 10th.

Danville started the 11th with two outs before Austin Green (San Diego) got a base hit. Cole Bieser (Southeast Missouri State) walked, and then Frost got a base hit to center to score Green from second before Frost was picked off following a throw to the plate.

Danville's JB Boersma (LA Mission College) started the game, and pitched five innings, giving up four runs on four hits. Chad Girodo (Mississippi State) pitched three innings, giving up one run on two hits while striking out four and walking one. Wil Browning (Louisiana-Monroe) pitched the 10th, with Andrew Walter (San Diego) taking the loss in the 11th.

The Dans stranded seven on base, including five in scoring position - three of them at third base. Danville's Frost finished the day 4-7 with 6 RBI's.

Danville finishes with a 34-25 record.
