Danville Dans News Release
(DANVILLE, IL) - A returning Danville Dans pitcher has been named the seasons' first  Pitcher of the Week by Pointstreak Sports Technologies and the Prospect League.
Ryan Gaines, a junior from Birmingham-Southern College in Alabama, received the honor for the week ending June 5. Gaines started the Dans' June 3 game against DuPage and allowed just one unearned run over seven innings in Danville's eventual 2-1 win. The Dunwoody, Ga., native gave up just five hits and struck out seven.
Earlier this year, Gains was named the Southern Athletic Association Pitcher of the Year and NCAA Division III Second All-America Team. In 10 starts for Birmingham-Southern College, he compiled a 9-1 record, led the league with a 1.57 ERA and tossed a complete game shutout.
The Dans resume action Tuesday with the Lafayette Aviators. Game time is 6:30 pm at Danville Stadium.
The Dans are a founding member of the Prospect League, a 12-team summer collegiate wood bat league. Baseball players from across America come to Danville to improve their fielding skills and hitting with wood bats. The Dans count 26 current or former MLB players among their alumni.
