Dayton Returns to Danbury
Last Season's Loss is Espo's Motivation
The last time the Demonz visited the Danbury Ice Arena, it was on April 19th, 2014 and it was a day many Danbury fans and players want to forget.
Danbury had led the Commissioner's Cup Finals series 2-0 with only one more win to repeat as champions of the Federal Hockey League. Then, after losing two close games in Dayton, it came down to a deciding Game 5 in Danbury. Unfortunately, the Whalers lost 9-2 and were forced to watch the Dayton Demonz skate around the Danbury Ice Arena with the trophy that they had held for the year.
On this upcoming Friday, January 9th @ 7:35 PM, the much anticipated rematch will take place at Danbury Ice Arena. It may be only a regular season game, but there is a lot at stake - 3 points, pride & a rivalry. Danbury has been successful so far this season, winning both games in Dayton, including taking down the Demonz on the night they raised their Championship banner to the rafters of Hara Arena.
Whalers head coach Phil Esposito is especially looking forward to this night and he commented:
"Ever since we lost game 5, I have kept the newspaper article in my office so that every day I see it I remember how much we want to beat these guys. If we want to make it back to the Finals and win, we need to overcome this hurdle and prove it on the ice."
Current Danbury Whalers on last season's squad include - Mike Brown, Kevin Hoy, Ryan Patsch, Ilya Solarev, Julian Fraser, Steve Brown, Matt Caranci, and Captain - David Lun.
This is a game that you will not want to miss! Contact the Danbury Whalers for tickets and more information at (973) 713-7547.
