Mike Nichols Night Saturday, December 6th

Whalers vs. Battalion

The Danbury Whalers and the Nichols Family Trust are proud to announce that on Saturday, December 6th at 7:35 when the Whalers take on Berkshire Battalion, it will be Mike Nichols Night.

Nichols, from Monroe, New Jersey, was selected by the Whalers in the 5th round of the 2014-15 Federal Hockey League College / Junior Hockey Draft.

Last season, on January 4th, while playing for Monroe High School, Mike suffered a spinal cord injury in the game against Vernon High School at Skylands Ice World. Mike's injury was to the 5th vertebrae. Prior to his injury in that game, Mike had registered a goal & 2 assists.

In his career, Mike earned 4-Varsity letters and totaled 9 goals and 19 assists.

On Mike Nichols Night, the Danbury Whalers players will meet Mike in the lockerroom in a pre-game ceremony. Prior to the start of the game, the team will present Mike with his #23 NICHOLS home & away game jerseys.

During the game, Mike will address the crowd.

These days Mike's main focus is on getting back on the ice. He is also working on various campaigns focused on creating awareness for spinal cord injuries. In January, Mike will attend Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

As part of the night a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Nichols Trust Fund. Fans can also pick up a Nichols #23 Whalers official t-shirt.

Mike Nichols commented, "This will be a fun night. We've been looking forward to getting to Danbury and meeting the team. Hockey has been such a big part of my life. I want to be a Danbury Whaler and I want to be on the ice playing the game I love so much. My goal is to wear that sweater and bring those fans out of their seats."

Danbury Whalers President, CFO, Alan Friedman stated, "Getting to know Mike and his family has been an amazing experience. This night we have circled to show Mike that there are people all over the world pulling for him. He's got so much heart. He's so strong. He is a winner and a Danbury Whaler."

Mike's dad, Steve Nichols added, "We are a hockey family. We are looking forward to meeting the fans of Danbury. It's going to be a fun night for everyone."

Danbury Whalers CEO/Managing Partner, Herm Sorcher stated, "Mike Nichols is a great kid who loves hockey. He has set some goals for himself and I'm happy that we can be a part of his life. The Danbury Ice Arena is a special place - this is going to be a rocking night."
