Matthew's Hearts of Hope, Inc. (MHOH) was founded by Marie Hatcher, Mom to Matthew, to raise awareness to the number one birth defect, Congenital Heart Defects (CHDs), offer support to CHD patients and their families, as well as raise funds for research. We are an official 501 (c) (3), non profit organization with a Board of Directors comprised of four nurses, one pediatrician and two pediatric cardiologists amongst others.
In our three short years of existence, we have worked hard to not only raise money for CHD research and to help support the CHD community, but also to raise awareness and to advocate for important legislation, which will help save lives.

ï⩠ïâ¬Â "Matthew and Faith's Law" was signed by Governor Malloy on May 8th. As of January 1st, 2013 every newborn in the State of Connecticut will be screened for Critical Congenital Heart Defects and lives will be saved!
ï⩠ïâ¬Â Marie, along with Board Member, Dr. Richard Berning, traveled to Albany to work with New York State legislators to help make mandatory Pulse Ox testing a reality there. Their hard work has been very successful and Governor Cuomo signed the Pulse Ox Bill into law on July 31st, 2013.
ï⩠ïâ¬Â Over 1000 Hug a Heart pillows were sewn and stuffed with love to provide comfort to CHD children in the hospital. Columbia Presbyterian Hospital has already received two deliveries with other deliveries planned there and at Children's Hospital of Boston, Yale and CCMC in Hartford.
ï⩠ïâ¬Â We held three very successful 'Giving from the Heart' Galas, which resulted in a check for $15,000, presented to Dr. Wendy Chung to help fund important CHD Research at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York. We also funded multiple CHD Research Grants to Pediatric Cardiology Fellows at 3 different hospitals, Columbia Presbyterian of New York, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Mount Sinai in New York.
Our inspirational story was spread across the country through several media stories, including the local network news and in the January Edition of Guideposts Magazine. It is on their website under "A Hopeful Heart" or Guideposts.org/mhatcher.
