Danbury Whalers News Release

This Saturday night the Danbury Whalers are honoring the United States Navy - Middletown Office Division.

This office is made up of 22 Future Sailors both men and women ranging from ages 17 to 23, who are all awaiting bootcamp.

Some will be leaving for the Navy straight from High School, while others are waiting for their ship date.

The group will be dropping a ceremonial puck and will be on the ice before the game.

These individuals are enrolled in a program called DEP (Delayed Enlistment Program) and obtain a military status of Inactive Reserve before going Active Duty. The main goal of the Program is to prepare Future Sailors both physically and mentally for the challenges of bootcamp while awaiting their assignment.

Part of their program is they are required to memorize the START Guide that includes Sailors Creed, Chain of Command, etc. and required to attend meetings twice a month for physical training and guidance from our Recruiter.

This Division has gone above and beyond the normal expectations of a DEP Pool.

Due to the hard work and dedication of the Division through teamwork, leadership and extracurricular activities, the Division has been recognized as the Best Division in the State of Connecticut and the #1 Division in New England.

The extracurricular activities include Volunteering at the East Haven Food Pantry, attending Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Self Defense Seminars and holding extra Study Groups and PT sessions.

These Future Sailors are under the guidance Recruiter - Petty Officer First Class Domenic Guiliano, Recruit Chief Katherine Roy, and Recruit Assistant Chief Bianca DeLuca.

First Class Petty Officer Guiliano has worked tirelessly for the Division and the Future Sailors. Prior to being a Recruiter, NC1 Guiliano worked in Aviation on the USS Kitty Hawk and has been stationed overseas in Japan. His Recruiting District has also been recognized as Recruiting District of the Year. The Future Sailors would like to thank our Recruiter for his outstanding hard work and mentorship he has provided.

The Future Sailors will also recognize Recruit Chief Katherine Roy on Saturday. Roy just picked up the contract for Spec Ops (Special Forces) as an Aviation Rescue Swimmer. She is scheduled to leave in August of this year.

Recruit Assistant Chief Bianca DeLuca will be leaving on March 4th as a Hospital Corpsman. RAC DeLuca has been part of the Danbury Whalers Off Ice Officials team all season.

The Danbury Whalers are proud to host this group and honor them during the game.
