The Danbury Whalers are proud to announce two major moves for the playoff push which bring two former Whalers Captains back to the organization.
The club has announced the signing of Defenseman Ed Campbell and Defenseman James Sanford. Both players will report to Danbury immediately and will be in the lineup for tonight's 7:35 PM game against the Watertown Privateers.
Defenseman, Ed Campbell, a 14-year professional was drafted in the 8th round of the 1993 draft by the New York Rangers. Campbell, the Captain of the 2012-13 FHL Danbury Whalers Championship team, played 17 games for Danbury last season. Campbell had 1 goal and 10 assists. In 6 playoff games, Campbell registered 3 assists and was a team high +14.
Eddie has played over 460 games in the American Hockey League with the Binghamton Rangers, Hartford Wolfpack, Worcester IceCats, Grand Rapids Griffins, Providence Bruins, Hershey Bears, Milwaukee Admirals, Bridgeport Sound Tigers, and Cleveland Barons.
A native of Worcester, Massachusetts, Campbell played the 05-06 season with the Danbury Trashers. For the Trashers, Ed had 3 goals 16 assists, and 132 PIM's.
James Sanford returns for his 3rd stint with the Danbury Whalers. Overall, Sanford has played 40 games regular season and playoff games. In his Whalers career, James 14 goals and 36 assists for 50 total points. In the 2011-12 run to the Finals against New Jersey, Sanford led the Whalers with 11 points and a team high 9 assists in 8 games.
In his career, James has played 100 regular & post season games in the American Hockey League.
With these additions, the Whalers will have three NHL draft picks on the current roster (Campbell, Solarev, & Mike Brown).
