Danbury Titans News Release
DANBURY, CT -- Mike Driscoll would score the game winning goal just over a minute into overtime to sweep the weekend for his Danbury Titans. Nikita Ivandikov recorded 35 wins to win his third straight, and Danbury moved within one point of the first place Danville Dashers.
Berlin's Tyler Prendergast would record the only goal of the first period, as he was left alone on the back post for an easy goal. Tom Tracy and David Brancik had the assists as Berlin took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Danbury's Nikita Ivandikov made 10 saves on 11 shots, while Berlin's Ryan Donovon was a perfect 9 for 9.
The teams would exchange chances for the first half of the second period, with players on both teams sacrificing their bodies and blocking shots. The floodgates would open after the halfway mark, as Mike Henderson of Danbury would finish a terrific individual effort from Mike Driscoll to tie the game. The RiverDrivers responded 4 minutes later as Tom Tracy would score his second in as many nights to restore the lead for Berlin. Danbury captain Dean Yakura tied the game with a blast from the point, assisted by Tyler Gjurich and Connecticut native Tim Richter. Less than a minute later, however, David Brancik would bang home a rebound to put Berlin back on top. Not content with ending another period with a deficit, Dean Yakura scored his second of the game with under a minute to play to send the teams into the intermission tied at 3.
Tyler Prendergast scored his second of the game just 1:12 into the third to once again give the RiverDrivers the lead. After that, however, the period would be owned by Nikita Ivandikov with a series of highlight reel saves to keep Danbury within striking distance. They would finally tie it again with Phil Bronner's power play with under 8 minutes left in regulation. Ivandikov would save his best for last, as his stop on a point blank shot from Tom Tracy with under 3 minutes to play ensured the Titans would secure at least one point as the game went to overtime. In the overtime period, Mike Driscoll would split the Berlin defense and slide the puck through the legs of Donovan to give Danbury their fifth straight victory.
With the overtime win, the Titans move to within one point of first place in the FHL. The Titans will be in action again Thursday evening against the same Berlin RiverDrivers, with a 7:35pm faceoff. For tickets and more information, contact the Danbury Titans by calling 844-DT-HOCKEY.
