Dan Dawson named NLL Player of the Week

April 4, 2007 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Arizona Sting News Release

GLENDALE, AZ --- The National Lacrosse League announced today that Arizona Sting forward Dan Dawson has been named Offensive and Overall Player of the Week for Week #14 of the season. Dawson tallied 16 points (6G-10A) in a pair of games last weekend in leading Arizona to back-to-back wins over Colorado and San Jose. The Sting clinched a playoff berth as a result of Saturday's victory over the Stealth.

Against the Colorado Mammoth on Friday night, Dawson equaled his career high by registering nine points (2G-7A) in a 14-8 win at the Pepsi Center in Denver. The 25-year old set a new Sting record for points in a season with his 85th point of the year in that game, which came on an assist during the fourth quarter. The following night at Jobing.com Arena, Dawson scored four goals (including the game-winner) and dished out three assists for seven points in the Sting's 10-9 win over the San Jose Stealth.

Currently leading the NLL in both goals (42) and points (92), Dawson is on pace to tally 113 points this season, a total that would be the third-highest of all-time, behind only John Tavares (115 in 2001) and Paul Gait (114 in 2002).

Dawson and the 9-4 Sting travel to upstate New York this weekend for a Saturday night showdown with the Buffalo Bandits (also 9-4). An Arizona win in conjunction with a Calgary loss (home versus Edmonton on Friday) will result in the Sting earning the right to host a home playoff game in the opening round of the 2007 Champion's Cup Playoffs.

The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). Their home games are played at Jobing.com Arena and their season runs annually from January-April. For more information, please visit www.ArizonaSting.com.
