Grand Rapids Drive News Release
CANTON, Ohio - Dahntay Jones had his best game of the season Wednesday night. But the 35-year-old guard wasn't able to do it in a win.
Jones scored a season-high 26 points as the Grand Rapids Drive lost 119-109 to the Canton Charge on Wednesday night in front of 1,833 fans at the Canton Memorial Civic Center.
The Drive snap a two-game winning streak and fall to 17-17. Canton improves to 22-13 and it now has won an impressive 10 games in a row, yet they still trail Sioux Falls by six games in the Central Division.
Jones, a 6-foot-7 guard out of Duke University, was 10-of-16 from the field. He also had eight rebounds and four assists.
Henry Sims finished with 16 points before fouling out midway through the fourth quarter. Devin Ebanks had 13 points and Kelsey Barlow added 12 points off the bench, all in the second half.
Gary Talton has always been known for his passing skills. But lately, he's showing he can score, too. Talton scored 17 of his 19 points in the first half, including three 3-pointers. He also had a team-high nine assists.
In his last eight games, Talton is averaging 13 points and 6.2 assists per game. The 6-foot-1 guard out of Illinois-Chicago is averaging and eight points and five assists overall.
Entering the fourth quarter, Grand Rapids trailed by six points, but a 3-pointer by Ralston Turner gave the Drive a 90-89 lead with 10 minutes to go in the game. But Canton would go on a 19-4 run to kill any chance of a come-back.
The teams were tied 59-59 at halftime. The Drive led by as many as eight points in the half.
Juvonte Reddic led Canton with 22 points. Nick Minnerath and John Holland each scored 21. Chris Crawford added 11 points and nine assists.
Grand Rapids kicks off a three-game homestand on Friday when it hosts the Westchester Knicks for a 7 p.m. start at the DeltaPlexa Arena.
