CONTINUED BALL EVAL: The NBA announced that on January 1, 2007, it will return to the leather game ball made by Spalding for the remainder of the 2006-07 season. The NBA also said that the D-League will continue using the new composite ball to evaluate its performance over a longer period of time.
THEY SAID IT: "I didn't really think about giving up. Because basketball is something that quits you. I don't think someone should ever quit while they can still play." ... Albuquerque guard Troy Bell said in this week's SI.com "Down in the D-League" about his feeling after being waived by the Memphis Grizzlies. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/chris_mannix/12/11/bell/index.html SKYFORCE WRAP: Sioux Falls players Luke Whitehead and Antywane Robinson will be wrapping Christmas presents Wednesday at the 6th Annual Children's Inn Gift Wrap Booth at the Empire Mall in Sioux Falls. Donations for the gift wrapping go to assist the services provided by Children's Inn, which include immediate shelter, crisis hotline, safety planning, counseling, education, support groups and community referrals with the ultimate goal to break the cycles of violence and abuse.
ASSIGNMENT 6: The Chicago Bulls assigned center Martynas Andriuskevicius (Mar-teen-es An-droo-SKAV-ih-chis) to the Dakota Wizards Monday. Andriuskevicius is the sixth NBA player assigned to a D-League affiliate this season.
PERFORMER OF THE WEEK: Albuquerque's Dijon Thompson has been named the D-LEAGUE.com Performer of the Week after leading the Thunderbirds to a pair of victories over Anaheim last week. On Dec. 7, Thompson scored a team-high 25 points, had five rebounds and five assists. On Dec. 8, he recorded 20 points, 10 boards and three assists.
