D.C. United Goalkeeper Bill Hamid Voted MLS Player of the Week

Published on March 18, 2013 under Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release

NEW YORK (Monday, March 18, 2013) - D.C. United goalkeeper Bill Hamid was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week Three of the 2013 MLS season.

In Saturday's heated rivalry match, the New York Red Bulls outshot United 24-5 but were unable to find the back of the net as Hamid made seven saves to maintain the shutout.

The D.C. United homegrown player was tested early as he was forced to make a diving save on a Thierry Henry shot in the seventh minute.

In the 67th minute, Hamid made another superb block, coming off his line to smother Tim Cahill's shot inside the six-yard box.

Hamid's final save of the game came during stoppage time as he cleared a Brandon Barklage shot off the line with a last-ditch effort to preserve the clean sheet.

D.C. United return to action at home against the Columbus Crew on Saturday, March 23 at 3:30 p.m. ET, live on NBC Sports Network.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.
