Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL, affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League and Hamilton Bulldogs and Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League, announced this afternoon that they have entered into a radio broadcast agreement for the 2009-10 season with WCKY-AM (1530). The 'Sports Animal' will carry up to 20 regular season games and all road Kelly Cup playoff contests.
"1530 Homer The Sports Animal is excited to enter into this agreement with the Cincinnati Cyclones," Joe Fredrick, Vice President of Sales for Clear Channel Cincinnati, said. "It is terrific to bring the Cyclones back to our airwaves for the first time in their ECHL history. With our strength of signal, the entire Tri-State area will be able to hear all the action."
While this will be the first time in the club's ECHL history that 1530 AM and the Cyclones have partnered, hockey and the station have worked together in the past. The IHL Cyclones were on the station from the mid 1990's until the league ceased operations at the end of the 2000-01 campaign.
"Joining with 1530 Homer The Sports Animal is an opportunity we have wanted," Kristin Ropp, Vice President and General Manager of U.S. Bank Arena and the Cyclones said. "This will allow sports fans in the Cincinnati area to know that Friday night is hockey night with the Cyclones."
The Cyclones will have their Friday night games, home or away, carried on 1530 Homer The Sports Animal. John Hamel, the Cyclones Director of Public Relations and Broadcasting will call the play-by-play action for the fourth straight year. All 72 regular season and playoff games will be carried on the club's website: www.cycloneshockey.com as well.
WCKY-AM (1530) is a Clear Channel owned station that features sports on a local and national basis. In addition to Cyclones hockey, the station also carries University of Kentucky football and basketball and University of Louisville football and basketball.
Tickets for the 2009-10 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. The Cyclones Sales Department can be reached at 513-421-PUCK, extension 3. The Cyclones open the season at Elmira on Friday, October 16 and after three road games, host their home opener at U.S. Bank Arena against Wheeling on Saturday, October 24 at 7:30pm. There will be a special divisional championship banner raising ceremony prior to that game.
