The Cane Cutters win in a tightly contested game 2-1 over the Woodland Strykers. The Cane Cutters are now 16-13 as the Strykers lose their third straight and are now 7-20.
The Cane Cutters took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. With 2 outs Chance Vincent (University of Alabama), 2-4 with a run scored, hit a single. He would advanced to second on a wild pitch and the Adam Yacek (Miami of Ohio) would draw a walk. Connor Short (University of Alabama) would make contact and reach on an overthrow by the shortstop for the Strykers. Due to the error Vincent would come around to score the first run for the team.
In the next inning the Cane Cutters scored another run to lead 2-0 off of another wild pitch as Evan Williams (TCU) would score from second.
The starting pitcher who held the Strykers scoreless through 7 innings was Hunter Medine (University of New Orleans). He would not only pitch 7 scoreless; he would also strikeout 4 while only allowing four hits.
Reliever Joey Cresta (Notre Dame) would come in and give up the only run to the Strykers in the top of the eighth inning. He however would then get the team out of a one out jam with runners on second and third by recording 2 quick outs.
It was over as Russell Reynolds (LSU) came in and earned the save by recording the final three outs as the Cane Cutters won a close one 2-1.
On Friday, August 7th, the regular season concludes with Fan Appreciation Night and the C&G Boats Shirt off the Back promotion! The camo jerseys worn by the players each Friday night will be available to fans, some in silent auction, and some in a drawing, immediately after the game as the players pull them off. It's a great photo opportunity! Come out and help us end the summer league season with some momentum before the playoffs.
On Saturday, August 8th, the Acadiana Cane Cutters will host their first ever home playoff game at 7:00. Our goal is to PACK THE PARK, and so we are encouraging all of our fans to come and support the team! We play the Victoria Generals in a single elimination round, and if we win,we will move on to the championship series. Tickets will be half priced so come out to catch some exciting Texas Collegiate League baseball!
