Cruz, Nash Help 'Hawks to Big Win

LANCASTER, Calif. - Luis Cruz struck out eight over five scoreless innings and Telvin Nash went yard as the JetHawks shutout the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, 14-0, in front of a sell out crowd on Friday night at The Hangar.

Cruz (4-4), pitching in front of a crowd of 4,713, struck out eight and without issuing a walk. He allowed just two hits and pitched out of a bases loaded, nobody out jam in the fifth inning. He struck out Jon Garcia swinging to end the threat and end his night.

The left-hander hasn't allowed a run in three of his last four outings and has only allowed one run over that span.

Lancaster went ahead in he second inning on a two-run Matt Duffy single. Ryan McCurdy followed by hitting a ground ball to first base that O'Koyea Dickson couldn't handle for an error. Two more runs came in to score.

Nash hit his 11th home run of the season, a two-run shot, in the third inning to extend the JetHawks lead.

In the fifth, Nash added another RBI with a single to right field scoring M.P. Cokinos. Preston Tucker then scored on a passed ball and Chris Epps drove Nash home with a triple. Epps scored on a Duffy single to put Lancaster up 10-0.

The JetHawks added three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to finish their scoring.

Nash, Epps, Cokinos and Andrew Aplin all scored three runs in the game. Duffy and Nash eached finished with three RBI.

Quakes starter Jarret Martin (5-7) allowed nine runs (six earned) over 4 1/3 innings in the loss.

The JetHawks (41-31, 2-0) take on the Quakes (31-41, 0-2) in the third game of the four game series on Saturday night at The Hangar. Aaron West (3-4, 5.07) will pitch against Carlos Frias (0-0, 5.40). First pitch is at 7:00 pm.
