Cruz Azul replaces Toluca at InterLiga 2006

NEW YORK (Monday, December 19, 2005) - Following Toluca's victory in the Mexican League championship on Sunday, the team will be replaced by Cruz Azul in Group B of InterLiga 2006. As Mexican league champion, Toluca will play in the 2006 CONCACAF Champions Cup, allowing Cruz Azul the opportunity to vie for a place in Copa Libertadores at InterLiga 2006.
The eight teams participating in InterLiga⢠2006 were selected based on their combined record in previous seasons of the Mexican domestic league. The top eight squads using this criteria (eliminating Toluca due to their championship victory): Group A - Monterrey, Morelia, Pachuca and Veracruz; Group B - CD Guadalajara, Cruz Azul, Necaxa and Tigres. Cruz Azul were next in line to participate in InterLiga with the ninth best combined record in previous seasons.
Soccer United Marketing (SUM), the organizers of InterLiga, also announced two game time changes for the 2006 edition. The doubleheaders on Tuesday, January 10 and Wednesday, January 11 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, California, will each begin at 6:00 p.m. PT, followed by the second game at 8:15 p.m. PT.
