Colorado Crush News Release
Commerce City, CO (July 2, 2003) â Today the Colorado Crush introduced Mike Dailey as the team's new head coach during a press conference at Pepsi Center. Dailey joins the Crush from the Indiana Firebirds, where he compiled a 63-46 overall record in seven seasons as the team's head coach. In that time, Dailey guided the Firebirds to five playoff appearances, three division championships and, most notably, an ArenaBowl championship in 1999, when he also earned AFL Coach of the Year honors.
"We are extremely thrilled to be able to hire a coach of Mike Dailey's caliber," said Crush President and CEO John Elway. "He's got tremendous experience in this game and this league. He has the track record of a winner." Dailey's Arena Football League coaching career began in 1990, when he served as the Offensive Line Coach for the Washington Commandos, one of the league's four original teams. In 1991 he became the Line Coach for the Albany Firebirds (who later moved to Indiana), and then served as the team's Defensive Coordinator for the 1992 and 1993 seasons.
Dailey was promoted to Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator for the Firebirds from 1994-1996, and in that time the team's offense led the AFL in scoring, boasting a 60.4 points-per-game average. He was named Head Coach of the Firebirds prior to the 1997 season.
