Crunch Will Try To Deliver Some Bite Against Bucs

LAKE CHARLES, LA (March 19, 2010) - The first action of the Southern Indoor Football League weekend kicks off on Saturday evening with two defending champions going head-to-head in the North Texas Crunch traveling to take on the Louisiana Swashbucklers.

Louisiana rides into 2010 hot off a 2009 season in which they lead seemingly in every major offensive and defensive category including tops in scoring offense (53.5 pts/gm) and scoring defense 26.9(pts/gm). After taking the coaching reins from the departed Darnell Lee, tomorrow will also mark the coaching debut for Shadrick McAfee. McAfee boasts a roster containing a lot of returning players from last season's championship roster. ALL-SIFL wide receivers Sammy Knight and Marcus Wilridge return to the Bucs after combining to collect 28 touchdowns along with 1,158 receiving yards.

With a defense that finished tops in total defense in 2009, the Black and Purple Gang return both All-SIFL members in defensive lineman John Paul Jones and defensive back Brandon Thomas. In three seasons with the Bucs, Jones has gathered 31.5 sacks while Thomas lead the club last season with seven interceptions.

North Texas rides into Lake Charles after the Houston Lightning and the SIFL decided the franchise would not participate in 2010. Last season, the Crunch played in three SIFL games going 0-3 and was outscored 182-21 and had three members of their club that made the jump from the IIFA to the SIFL. The two-time Alliance Bowl Champions come into Saturday's contest hot off a 49-18 victory over the East Texas Drillers this past Sunday.
