Syracuse Crunch News Release
BELLVILLE, ONTARIO - The Syracuse Crunch had their nine-game winning streak snapped with a 2-1 overtime loss to the Belleville Senators tonight at Yardmen Arena.
Mitchell Stephens scored the lone Crunch goal as the team picks up one point on the road and moves to 24-12-2-2 on the season. Syracuse still has a 4-0-1-1 lead in the eight-game season series against Belleville.
Connor Ingram stopped 23-of-25 shots between the pipes for the Crunch. His counterpart, Danny Taylor, earned the win for the Senators with 18 saves. Syracuse convert on one of their three power play opportunities and went a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The Crunch opened scoring with a power-play goal 3:22 into the game. Mat Bodie started the play at the point and fed Mathieu Joseph for a one-timer in the right circle. His shot was stopped, but Stephens was in the slot to jam in the rebound.
With 1:05 remaining in the second period, the Senators evened the score to eventually force overtime. Max McCormick sent a lead pass out of the zone for Jim O'Brien to get ahead of the defense and score on the breakaway. Filip Chlapik recorded the secondary assist.
Two minutes into the extra frame, McCormick sped down the left wing on an odd-man rush and picked the corner over Ingram's right shoulder. O'Brien and Erik Burgdoerfer earned points on the game-winner.
The Crunch return home to host the Toronto Marlies on Friday at 7 p.m.
Single game tickets and packages are on sale now and can be purchased in person at the Crunch office located inside the War Memorial Arena at 800 S. State St. in Syracuse, by calling the office at 315-473-4444.
