Crabs Ink Two More to 2012 Roster

Southern Maryland Blue Crabs Manager Patrick Osborn has announced the official signing of two more players to the 2012 Blue Crabs roster. Catcher Christian Lopez and utility infielder Bridger Hunt are returning to the Crabs after spending last season with the club.

Christian Lopez returns to Southern Maryland for his third season with the ball club. At the plate Lopez hit .258 with nine homers and 42 RBI in 105 games. Lopez went berserk in the month of June last season, as he hit .319 with three homers and 17 RBI for the month. Entering his eighth year in professional baseball, Lopez was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2003. He spent six years in the Rays organization, reaching as high as Triple-A Durham in 2007 before making his Atlantic League debut in 10'. During the duration of the off season, Lopez has been competing on the CMT reality series, "Sweet Home Alabama", but was recently knocked out in the fifth episode.

Bridger Hunt will return to the Blue Crabs after beginning last season with the Rockland Boulders of the Can-Am League. While with the Boulders, Hunt hit .237 in 18 games. Hunt came to the Blue Crabs in July of last season. The former Long Island Duck proved to be a spark plug right off the bat, as Hunt provided a boost after batting .281 in 16 games during the month of July. Hunt hit .281 with two homers and 15 RBI in 30 games before being plagued with an injury in September and being placed on the inactive roster for the remainder of the season. The Ellijay, GA native was originally signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the ninth round of the 2006 draft. He hit no lower than .292 in any of his first three seasons in the Dodgers organization. Shoulder surgery would force Hunt to miss all of the 2009 season.

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs are a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, and play at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf, Maryland.
