CPIFL Announces Players of the Week

April 16, 2014 - Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL) News Release


Lawrence, KS. - The CPIFL closed the first half of the season on Saturday with another weekend of nail-biting action. This week, the teams in three games were separated by five points or less with under a minute to go. Games are sure to get more intense as teams remain locked in tight battles for the playoffs as the league enters the second half of the schedule this week.

Offensive Player of the Week: John Bentley, Sioux City Bandits

Bentley rushed for a CPIFL season high of 167 yards on Friday night as Sioux City won their fourth game in a row. Bentley's rushing total was the second most in a game in league history. He holds the record with 193 vs. Bloomington on June 8, 2013. Bentley added three rushing touchdowns and one receiving TD to help the Bandits to the 61-55 victory over Omaha. Sioux City travels to Bloomington on Saturday to look for their fifth consecutive victory.

Defensive Player of the Week: Meshak Williams, Salina Bombers

With Salina ahead by only five with under a minute to go, Dodge City took the ball with a chance to steal the game. Williams proceeded to sack the Law quarterback and forced a fumble that was returned for a touchdown to clinch the 57-45 victory for the Bombers. Williams tallied four tackles for loss and three sacks in the game. The Bombers defense held Law QB Josh Floyd to just 25 yards rushing. Williams leads the league in sacks with seven and tackles for loss with 9.5. Salina heads into their bye week tied atop the league standings with a 4-1 record.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Wayne Jacobs, Lincoln Haymakers

Jacobs led all CPIFL returners in Week 7 with five kick returns for 110 yards in the Haymakers' 49-43 loss to the Wichita Wild. His average of 22 yards per return was tops in the league. Jacobs is averaging 18.4 yards per return this season which ranks 6 th in the CPIFL. Lincoln will look to make the playoff race more interesting as they travel to Dodge City to take on the Law on Saturday.

The CPIFL begins the second half of the season with four games on Saturday featuring Wichita visiting Omaha, Lincoln travelling to Dodge City, Bloomington hosting Sioux City and Oklahoma visiting Kansas.
