Port Huron Icehawks News Release

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks announced that they have added another familiar face to the 2009-10 roster with the signing of defenseman Rob Cowan. Details of the deal were not disclosed.

Cowan (6-4, 215 lbs) first came to Port Huron as an amateur at the end of the 2007-08 season after three seasons (2005-08) at Robert Morris University in the NCAA. In his first season with the Icehawks, he posted two assists and a +1 rating in six regular season games and one goal in eight playoff games. Last season, he returned to Port Huron and turned in eight points (3g, 5a) and 101 penalty minutes in 68 games.

"Cowan brings size and grit. He continued to improve as the season went on and should hit his stride now that he is entering his 2nd full season," Head Coach and General Manager Stan Drulia said. "His ability to anchor our penalty kill and to also play forward makes him very valuable."

The Calgary, Alberta native finished his collegiate career with 21 points (1g, 20a) and 147 penalty minutes in a total of 123 games. Cowan, 25, also played two seasons of junior hockey with the Old Grizzlys in the Atlantic Junior Hockey League, where he averaged 22 points and 178 penalty minutes per season.
