CARY, N.C. (Saturday, June 29, 2002) - The Carolina Courage remained in a first-place tie with the Philadelphia Charge after an impressive 3-0 win over the San Diego Spirit on Saturday night before 5,340 at SAS Stadium. Danielle Slaton, Birgit Prinz and Danielle Fotopoulos provided the goals and the firepower for Carolina, as they improved to 27 points in the standings. San Diego drops to 2-7-3 with nine points, remaining in seventh place.
San Diego returns home to Torero Stadium next Saturday, July 6, 1:00 p.m. PT, to face the Boston Breakers. The Spirit's 100,000th fan will pass through the gates before the game; to celebrate the occasion the fan will receive a pair of lifetime season tickets and a prize package worth over $1,500. In addition to the 100,000th fan celebration, the team is also hosting Photo Day beginning at 11:00 a.m. PT. Spirit fans can take pictures with their favorite players for 30 minutes on the Torero Stadium field. Plus, the first 2,000 fans will receive a free Spirit Beach Towel.
